Hi everyone.
Wow! What a show at The Albany Club in Earlsdon Coventry last night. It was our second ever gig there following a succesful debut last October. This time, as part of the Earlsdon Festival, the show was promoted by Dave Clarke and proved to be even better! We were thrilled to see the venue packed and the audience reaction all night was fantastic. It’s always good to play in the band’s home city and this must be the best attendance we’ve had for a few years in Coventry so many thanks to everyone who came to the show and made it such a memorable night. Mind you, squeezing all nine of us onto that small stage presented a challenge, not just in terms of people space but also technical issues regarding sound and lights. Our crew did a great job in making sure it looked and sounded as good it did. Thanks as always to Cable PA and SSR. We were delighted that the new songs added to the set were all well received and it was particularly pleasing to perform ‘See Emily Play’ properly for the first time. ‘Not Now John’ and ‘On The Turning Away’ were other tracks that haven’t featured in our live shows for a while so it was great to play them again too. Probably the stand out moment though was the reaction to Sofia’s amazing performance of ‘The Great Gig In The Sky’. The look on everyone’s faces as she really goes for the big notes is amazing to see for us up on stage! A special mention also for Andy’s ‘Comfortably Numb’ solos. He always blows the roof off anywhere we play when he does that one and last night, even more so!
Next up we’re back at the Musician Pub venue in Leicester city centre on Friday 28th June. Like The Albany we played this cracking live music venue for the first time only last year and we had a brilliant night. Hopefully we’ll build on that one too and get a similar turn out of Leicester based Floydies! Again, it’s going to be a real squeeze but we do like performing at these smaller venues just as much as we do on larger theatre stages. It’s great to have the variety and each gig always offers something different.
Finally, we’re just concluding all the details for this year’s ‘Great Gig On The Lakes’ show at Stanton Lakes and will be making announcements very soon. We have decided to progress the event from a Friday evening show to an all day live music show on Saturday 17th August – so make a note in your diaries! We will have 8 different bands/acts on throughout the day, starting with duets and solo performers in the restaurant bar area (or if the weather’s good, on the lakeside decking outdoors) and then the main outdoor marquee stage will kick into life at 4pm. This year we have also decided that the acts will mainly perform well known material and not be original music bands, making it more accessible for everyone. The whole concert will again be in memory of well-loved local landlady Jane Smith, who died tragically early from cancer last year, and supporting her favourite charity, the Air Ambulance, with her husband Steve Smith’s fantastic firework finale once again concluding the event. With outdoor bars, hot food outlets, ice cream vendors, a few other surprises and on-site camping available, the whole event promises to be better than ever. Watch this space!
Meantime, we look forward to seeing you at The Musician!
