3 upcoming gigs, 2 decades of DSOTW and 1 great video!

Lots to tell you about in this latest blog post!

This Saturday (20th February) sees us head back to Derby for another gig at The Flowerpot, an atmospheric venue if ever there was one! The capacity is 250 and we achieved a sell-out crowd here last year. What a brilliant night that was so we’re really looking forward to coming back. Hopefully see a few of you there!

The Flowerpot.
King Street, Derby DE1 3DZ.
8.45pm start.

We have also just announced on social media that we will be staging a major show in the band’s home city of Coventry to celebrate our 20th Anniversary Year! We’re beyond thrilled that this show will be at a fantastic new venue called The Empire on Far Gosford Street on Saturday 3rd September. The Empire is the perfect place for us to put on our full spectacular show and we hope everyone who has helped us reach this particular milestone will come along and join the fun. It’s quite a feat for Coventry’s own Pink Floyd tribute band and we couldn’t have done it without the support of all the musicians, crew and most importantly, everyone who has come to the shows over the years. We’d love to see as many of you there as possible.

More details on tickets/timings etc will be announced in due course but in the meantime… make sure you put Sat 3rd Sept in your diary!!!!

And in case you haven’t seen it yet. Take a look at our new promo video on YouTube.

Filmed by Howling Mad Productions and lovingly edited together by our own Keyboard Pete, the end result is a compilation of clips from several songs, all performed live at The Benn Hall in Rugby, to capture the essence of a DSOTW show. Hope you like it!

It’s also less than month to go til our annual visit to The Benn Hall in Rugby, always one of our favourites. We’re there again on SATURDAY 12th MARCH. We’ve been coming to this venue since 2002 and it’s always a brilliant place to stage our full show. We also have a brand new lighting crew, who are working on a different visual approach to our shows, especially as the guys involved are all Floydies too… something we’ve never previously had from our lighting crews over the years. Advance tickets are already on sale and we will be running the usual pay on the door option too.

The Benn Hall.
Newbold Road, Rugby CV21 2LN.
8.30pm start.

Finally, we have a brand new venue to perform at in Lutterworth when we make our first visit to The Piano Room. This is a large function room based at Hall Park, the home of Lutterworth Athletic FC. Having not played in the area since our Wycliffe Room shows we’ve been looking for somewhere suitable to come back to and we’re delighted to support what is a new venue run by enthusiatic people. We’re there on SATURDAY 23rd APRIL and look forward to seeing many people who have supported the band locally over the years, be it at the old Moorbarns, the old football club club house or the aforementioned Wycliffe Rooms. Always great to play somewhere new!

The Piano Room.
Hall Park, Hall Lane, Bitteswell, Lutterworth, Leics LE17 4LN.
8.30pm start.
Ticket hotline: 07854 414345.

Look forward to seeing you in Derby, Rugby or Lutterworth!

2016 here we come!

After what seems like an excessively long break for xmas and new year we’re chomping at the bit to get back on stage and play some Floyd with the first gig of 2016 now looming on the horizon!

Saturday 30th January sees us back in The Queens Hall in Nuneaton where we’ve always had cracking nights. Great atmosphere and a proper ‘rock venue’ if ever there was one!

We’ve been in the rehearsal room this month (and it has to be said it’s been a freezing cold one!) and will be changing and adding some things around in our set so we’re looking forward to kicking the year off in style!

All the show details are below and it’d be great to see you there!

Saturday 30th January
THE QUEEN’S HALL
75-77 Queen’s Road • Nuneaton • CV11 5LA
Advance £10 OR Door £11
Tel: 02476 347402
Tickets available online via: www.thecrewrock.co.uk
8.00pm doors • 8.30pm start

In other news… some of you may be aware that DSOTW played it’s first ever gig in Coventry back in 1996! So, with that in mind, we are planning a BIG show in the heart of the city to mark the band’s 20th anniversary later on the year, probably around September time. We look forward to making the announcement very soon and we hope to be able to see many faces who have been part of the band’s two decades of live performances there on the night. It’s an amazing feat for a non-professional band to have this kind of longevity and we know that what we’re planning will be a very special night. We have the venue all sorted and as soon as we have the date confirmed we’ll be letting people know.

See you in Nuneaton!

Last gig of the year!

Hi everyone

Well, it’s here, the last gig of yet another year! Where does the time go? Racing around, to come up behind you again… probably.

We hit the stage at The Musician in Leicester on Friday 27th November (and following the sad demise of Stoney Stanton Club where we’ve traditionally played our last one most years) we intend to make sure next Friday is a case of seeing 2015 out with a bang! It’s certainly that kind of venue. Unlike some other Floyd tribute bands we’ve always enjoyed playing a variety of different types of shows and never stick to one kind. The Musician (like the Flowerpot and the Roadhouse) is the kind of place where you get to let your hair down (well, not Big Mick obviously) and let rip in the atmosphere of a proper rock gig.

You can buy advance tickets via http://www.wegottickets.com/event/330044 or simply turn up on the night and pay on the door, which opens at 8pm. We’re due on stage around 8.45pm. Venue details are:

The Musician Pub
Crafton Street West
Leicester LE1 2DE
Tel: 0116 251 0800

Hopefully we’ll see a great turn out, especially now the Leicester contingent within the band is up to three! Steve has for many years been the sole ‘Les-tah’ representative in what has always been a Coventry-based band. However, with Louise and Tony hailing from Thurcaston it would seem we’re more of an M69 fusion band these days!

See you in Leicester folks… but if not, we hope you have lots of festive fun and we’ll see you in 2016 – which is DSOTW’s 20th anniversary! Like I say, where does the time go?

Shine On!

Rockin The Roadhouse

Hi everyone.

Hard to believe we only have TWO shows left in 2015 following last weekend’s brilliant trip down to Aldeburgh in Suffolk.

This Saturday (10th October) sees us return once again to The Roadhouse in Birmingham. Every gig we do in this “proper music venue” is always a rockin great night. The vibe just seems to suit what we do and the crowd are always right up there with the nosiest! The pre-xmas show we did in December last year was particularly memorable and with a packed house and unbelievable atmosphere to match.

Details are:

Saturday 10th October
THE ROADHOUSE
Wharfside Leisure Complex, Lifford Lane, Stirchley, Kings Norton, Birmingham, West Midlands B30 3DZ

Tickets at: www.theroadhousebirmingham.com
Adv £8 / Door £10 • Doors: 7.30pm • Show: 8.45pm

Following that, whilst our lead guitarist goes on tour with Badfinger UK (and we wish Andy every success on this professional opportunity!) we have a 7 week break before we return to the heart of Leicester for another gig at The Musician. This place is very similar to the Roadhouse in so much as we get to play one of those ‘in-yer-face’ rock gigs instead of a seated theatre audience. We love doing both kinds of gig of course and it’s great to have this varierty amongst the types of venue we play. Look out for the fact that we’re doing a rare FRIDAY night at this one by the way. The gig date is 27th November and tickets are on sale now via the venue itself or online at http://www.wegottickets.com/event/330044

Hope we get to see you at one of these fantastic venues!

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain

Hi everyone!

Well, our summer’s gone (was it ever really here?) and we’re back on the road this month with our annual trip down to The Swan Theatre in Worcester on Saturday 12th September.

It’s 6 weeks since we played The Mill in Banbury so we were back in our Coventry rehearsal room last night trying to remember all the songs! Now we can’t wait to get back playing again and with a couple of venues sadly having closed this year we only have FOUR more shows in 2015 so we’re determined to make the most of them.

The Swan is always a great place to present our full show so we’ll be bringing in the circle, video projections etc and as usual be performing just under two and half hours worth of classic Floyd material in our own inimitable style! It’s always an absolute pleasure to come back to Worcester every year (as we’ve been doing for 16 years now!) and play to so many fellow Floydies. The Swan is a seated theatre venue but that never stops the atmosphere from being fantastic and with a big stage to spread out on we always treat this show as one of our highlights of the year.

Tickets are available from the box office (tel: 01905 611427) or online at www.worcesterlive.co.uk

After this show we have a couple of return visits to quite contrasting venues in October. Saturday 3rd sees us make the long trip down to Suffolk to perform at The Jubilee Hall in the picturesque seaside town of Aldeburgh. We did our first ever show there last November and had a great night and are delighted to be asked back. Then the following weekend, by way of a complete contrast… we’re in Birmingham! The Roadhouse is always a great night and we’re back there again on Saturday 10th October. More details on these two shows, plus the final one of the year at The Musician in Leicester in November will follow.

Meantime, hope to see some of you at The Swan!

Best wishes
