Every Year Is Getting Shorter (or so it seems!)

Hi everyone.

So, here we are heading fast towards the end of yet another year that’s gone by so quickly. DSOTW’s 20th anniversary is now behind us and this coming Saturday (17th December) we aim to close out 2016 with a ‘bang’ as we head over to Birmingham for The Roadhouse’s coveted ‘Last-Saturday-before-xmas-gig’! We had a sell-out last time we did this slot a couple of years ago so here’s hoping we get the place rammed again with fellow Floydies looking for a great night out. It’s always a brilliant atmosphere at The Roadhouse. Nice and cosy – nice and noisy!

THE ROADHOUSE
Wharfside Leisure Complex, Lifford Lane, Strichley, Birmingham B30 3DZ
Box Office Tel: 0121 246 2273 or online via www.theroadhousebirmingham.com

Doors open from 7.30 and we’re on around 8.45pm. The show lasts until 11.30pm with the bar closing at midnight. Not only that, it’s an absolute bargain £8 advance – or just a tenner on the door!

An early heads up is that we kick off 2017 on Saturday 28 January with a return to The Queens Hall in Nuneaton, followed by our annual trip over to The Flowerpot in Derby on Saturday 18th February (another one that usually sells out so make sure you get your advance tickets!). The only other 2017 show scheduled so far is at The Benn Hall in June but there will be others added in due course as we confirm availability with people and places – never an easy task with so many of us!

If for any unfathomable reason you can’t make it to Birmingham on Saturday we’d like to take this opportunity to thank you so much for all your support and wish everyone a great xmas and a very happy new year.

Shine on!

Pink Floyd and Pork Pies!

Hi everyone

Next weekend we visit the home of the best Pork Pies known to man….

Now that we’re working with Melton Mowbray based sound and light specialists Abstract Audio, a show in Melton has been on the agenda since the turn of the year – and next Saturday (15th OCTOBER) we roll up in the town for our first show there in several years when we take to the stage at the Market Tavern Banqueting Suite (at Melton Market), Scalfold Road, Melton Mowbray LE13 1JY.

We’ve had some great shows in Melton in the past and Norman at Abstract Audio has been instrumental in getting us back. Big thanks to him for all the local leg work! The Market Tavern venue is perfect for our full show and as usual we promise a spectacular night of live music accompanied by a fantastic Floyd-style light show. Norman and his crew want to pull out the stops on this one!

It’s a huge room so tickets are still available. They can be obtained by any of FOUR different ways!

If you’re local to Melton and would like advance tickets for just £10 each, simply call Norman on 07525 627684 and he’ll deliver tickets to your door! Secondly, they can also be purchased at Icon Music, 58 King Street, Melton.

Thirdly, you can buy them online via PayPal by emailing us at band@pinkfloydtribute.co.uk in the first instance. These tickets will be £11 each to cover p&p.

Finally, you can simply buy a ticket on the door on the night at £12 each.

Hope you can make what promises to be a great night – Pink Floyd and Pork Pies… what a combination!

Ticking away… not long now until our 20th Anniversary Show

Hi everyone.

Hope you’re all well and enjoying the summer, sporadic as it is.

We have just a few days left until the good ship DSOTW celebrates it’s 20th anniversary year with a special one off show at The Empire here in Coventry, the band’s home city, this coming Saturday – 3rd September.

Tickets are available in advance via www.coventryempire.co.uk or alternatively, you can simply pay on the door on the night (which also avoids the booking fee!). If you’ve never been to The Empire before, and it only opened earlier this year, we think you’ll find it’s easily Coventry’s best live music venue, and definitely the best we’ve performed at across our two decades of performing Pink Floyd music.

By the way, this week we’re featured on the Coventry Telegraph’s website… check out the article here:
http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/dark-side-wall-announce-coventry-11763185

Regardless of whether it’s been a while since you saw our live show, or whether you still follow us regularly, we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Saturday night to help mark this milestone occasion. Doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8.30pm.

Shine on!

20th Anniversary and beyond….

Hi everyone.

You may or may not be aware that this band was originally formed in Coventry way back in 1996 by founder members John Wall, Barry Page and Stuart ‘Cossy’ Cosgrove. To consider that we’re still around after 20 years of performing Pink Floyd music on stages up and down the many corners of the UK is a considerable achievement, one which everyone who’s sailed on the good ship DSOTW are immensely proud of.

That being the case we started 2016 thinking about how best to mark this special occasion. We agreed it HAD to be in Coventry. After all, it’s the band’s birthplace. But to be honest, we’ve struggled to find a venue in our home city where we could put on the full stage show that we perform in other venues around the UK. This has a been something of a frustration until now…we checked out the newly opened EMPIRE on Far Gosford Street a few months back. What an incredible venue for live music! It soon became apparent that it was a no-brainer that our 20th Anniversary show should take place there. The venue is specially set up for live music, and this is no surprise given that it’s been opened and run by the guys from the well-respected and quite superb Coventry band The Enemy. They were only too pleased to have us at their place on SATURDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER and it will be the first time we’ve been able to bring our full light show, circle and video projections to Coventry. We simply can’t wait for that and really hope that many people who have seen the band over those two decades will come and support the occasion. Will be great to see all the Floydies and followers of DSOTW – old and new!

Full venue details are:

You can keep in touch with all info ahead of the show via our Facebook page where we hope to post news of ‘special guests’ on the night.
For those people looking beyond the Anniversary show we have a very busy Autumn schedule coming up – thank goodness after the long summer lay off! Here’s the dates to look for:

Sat 1st October
Swan Theatre, Worcester: We’ve been playing The Swan annually since 2004 and each year we have a brilliant show there. Simply love this place!

Sat 15th October
Melton Tavern Banqueting Suite, Melton Mowbray: A brand new venue for us. We’re co-promoting our own show in this fabulous room based at the Melton Mowbray Cattle Market in conjunction with Abstract Audio, our new lighting guys that are local to the area. Tickets are available via email from us (band@pinkfloydtribute.co.uk) or can be purchased on the door on the night.

Sat 29th October
Norden Farm Centre For The Arts, Maidenhead: We made our debut at this fabulous venue last summer and can’t wait to build on that show. An amazing theatre!

Sat 19th November
The Musician, Leicester: Always a great atmosphere in this brilliant small live music venue.

Sat 17th December
The Roadhouse, Birmingham: The same applies here. It’s why we keep going back. Always such a brilliant night and we’re thrilled to get a pre-xmas gig again. Sold out last time!

We already have a few shows booked in for 2017 too so check out the ‘LIVE’ page on our website for details on those.

Hope to see you at The Empire on Saturday 3rd September for a proper Floydie knees-up!

Lutterworth return

Hi everyone.

We make a welcome return to one of our long-standing locations with our next show taking place in Lutterworth.

Some of you may recall we played shows between 1999 and 2000 at what used to be ‘The Moorbarns’ on the A5. When that place changed ownership to become a Swingers Club(!) we decided that a night of Pink Floyd music was probably not appropriate! As such we re-located to Lutterworth Town FC’s old club house building for three gigs between 2001-2002. This was followed by a bit of a gap before we did our first show at The Wycliffe Rooms back in 2006. We subsequently performed 6 more at this venue and have always enjoyed a loyal Floyd-loving support in Lutterworth. This essentially brought about the approach this year by a new venue, The Piano Room, a first floor function room in the new Training Academy building at Hall Park (the home of Lutterworth Athletic FC).

This will be our first show there and hopefully it will help the venue launch itself as a home for live music as well as the various other events they hold, such as regular comedy evenings and private functions.

Advance tickets can be obtained from the venue by using the contact details below. There will also be a pay on the door option available on the night.

Saturday 23rd April 2016

After Lutterworth our next live appearance will be as the Sunday night headliners at The Mello Festival at Throckmorton Airfield near Evesham on 29th May. We’re thrilled to get the opportunity to play a 90 minute set to close the whole 3-day festival, especially as excellent bands such as The Levellers and The Blockheads are also on the bill! More about this, and our special 20th Anniversary Show at The Coventry Empire on Saturday 3rd September in the comning weeks!

See you in Lutterworth.
