Meet The Band

STEVE CHILTON - Bass guiitar & vocals

Equipment: Fender Precision Special P/J Limited Edition Bass. Aguilar 350 Tonehammer Bass Amp. Gallien Krueger CX 15” Bass Cab. Zoom B1on Effects Pedal.

DSOTW debut: Ash Green Social Club, near Coventry (March 2000)

Joining DSOTW: I saw an ad for a Coventry-based band called ‘Dark Side Of The Wall’ at The Moorbarns in Lutterworth and went to see them perform in August 1999. I introduced myself saying that if ever they needed a bass player then I’d be happy to come along from Leicester for an audition. A month later I got a call to say their bass player and keyboard player had left and would I still like to audition? So, along with keyboard player Pete Riley (who I was in other bands with back in the 90s) we headed over to Coventry the following week and did the audition. Many years down the line I never expected that Pete and I, the former “new boys” would end up being the band’s longest serving members… and we’re both very proud of that fact. We’ve had so many brilliant times with this band it’s impossible to recount them all. It’s my opinion that it’s the ever-present ‘family spirit’ that has ensured the survival and subsequent longevity of DSOTW.

MICK FREEMAN - Lead vocals

Equipment: Vocal chords… a tambourine and a cow bell!

DSOTW debut: St Peters Social Club Netherseal (October 2004)

Joining DSOTW: DSOTW were my first ever band and I joined them at the ripe old age of 46! I had always liked Pink Floyd and when my old pal Cossy told me he was in a band and asked if I’d like to come to a gig, I thought why not? That band was DSOTW and my interest in Floyd was immediately rekindled. I started buying the albums, and was hooked, going to lots of DSOTW gigs to watch my mate. So when Cossy announced he was stepping down back in 2004, and DSOTW were actively looking for a new lead singer, he literally dragged me along to a rehearsal and a formal audition – and here I am – over 200 gigs under my belt now, and still lovin’ it!

PETE 'TAZ' MORGAN - Saxophones & vocals

Equipment: Earlham Series 2 Alto. Amati Tenor. Hand-built special edition P. Mauriat 302g Baritone. And now a Soprano too, just to keep the sounds as real as possible!

DSOTW debut: The Arches, Coventry (October 2010)

Joinging DSOTW: I’ve been playing sax with ‘Dark SIde Of The Wall’ since October 2010 and I have enjoyed every one of the gigs that I’ve performed at. As many of you know, they are a very professional group of musicians and I still find it a great honour to play with them. Never before have I seen a group of people enjoy what they do so much. Long may it last.

TONY NORRIS - Drums & SPD-S effects

Equipment: 1970 Ludwig Black Panther drum kit and a mix of Zildjian and Sabian cymbals. Roland SPD-S effects & Remo roto toms

DSOTW debut:   The Benn Hall, Rugby (March 2015)

Joining DSOTW: I was first introduced to Dark Side of the Wall when my wife, Louise, became a backing singer in 2014. I became a huge fan of the band and was delighted to have been asked to dep for former drummer, Ted, on a couple of occasions before becoming the band’s permanent drummer in 2015. And now it’s 10 years and counting as a fully-fledged member of the ʻDark Side’.

JON MURDOCK - Electric & acoustic guitars, keyboards & backing vocals

Equipment: Fender USA Telecaster. Yamaha acoustic guitars. KORG X5D Keyboard. 15watt Fender Blues Junior guitar amp. Torque 100watt keyboard amp. Zoom 505 Effects Pedal.

DSOTW debut: St Peters Social Club Netherseal (October 2004)

JOINING DSOTW: I joined DSOTW in October 2004, making my debut in a ‘warm-up’ gig for the new line up at Netherseal only a few days after my audition. I remember still learning ‘Run Like Hell’ via the car stereo outside in the car park just before the gig! And over 20 years later, I’m still here!

PETE RILEY - Keyboards & vocals

Equipment: Korg Triton Pro. Korg Kronos. Korg N5 EX Yamaha DX7 IID. Roland KC-150 Amp. Mackie Onyx 12 Mixer

DSOTW debut: Ash Green Social Club, near Coventry (March 2000)

JOINING DSOTW: Steve and I originally played in a Pink Floyd tribute band in the late 90s and but after that split, we were both doing nothing band wise for a while until Steve called me to say that the Coventry band ‘Dark Side Of The Wall’ were looking for new bass and keyboard players. I was a little apprehensive about this as I knew they were a very accomplished tribute band but after a little persuasion by Steve we both headed off to Coventry for a rehearsal/audition with the band – only an hour into the rehearsal, the band announced that they would book a gig next month! Looked like we were in then! To date, Steve and I are now the longest serving members of DSOTW with well over 300 gigs under our belts and still going from strength to strength – long may this amazing band continue!

* Pete is a founder member the very successful originals band ‘Freedom To Glide’ and is also producing new music with Louise Wilson under the guise of ‘Electric Nostrum Moo’.

ADRIAN STOKES - Lead, rhythm, slide & acoustics guitars, talkbox & backing vocals

Equipment: Fender Custom Shop ‘David Gilmour’ Signature Stratocaster, Fender American Pro Stratocaster (with EMG active pickups), Gibson Les Paul Goldtop P90, Duesenberg Pomona 6 lap steel, Martin D35E acoustic. Line 6 Helix Rack (+ floor controller) into Hiwatt ‘Little Rig’ 20W Amplifier with Hiwatt 1×12 cabinet, via Two Notes Torpedo CaptorX 8 ohm Reactive Load Box. Other FX etc: Ebow, MXR Talk box, Digitech FreqOut, TC Electronic Spark boost.

DSOTW debut: Norden Farm Arts Centre, Maidenhead (June 2018)

Joining DSOTW: I’ve been in bands for more decades than I care to remember! I played in a covers band with Jon Murdock (who’s been with DSOTW since 2004) and it’s thanks to him that I got the chance to audition with DSOTW. I’d been to see the band previously but never thought it was the kind of set up I could participate in. So, to actually join DSOTW in 2018 was a fantastic opportunity and I still can’t believe my luck – although replacing Andy Nixon was a pretty daunting prospect and I really appreciate all the encouragement he gave me in those early days.

LOUISE WILSON - Backing vocals & electric rhythm guitar

Equipment: Fender Telecaster. Marshall 880 Combo Amp. BOSS Effects Pedals.

DSOTW debut: The Mill Arts Centre, Banbury (April 2014)

Joinging DSOTW: Having been a fan of Pink Floyd for many years, becoming a member of the ʻDark Side familyʼ in 2014 was a fantastic opportunity for me. Not only do I get to sing and play on some of the most incredible songs ever written, but I also get to work alongside talented musicians who happen to be some of the kindest and most supportive people I’ve ever met. In my view, thereʼs no greater buzz than that.
